Working in Partnership with Māori

OVERVIEW

We work with incredible partners from Te Ao Māori, who give us guidance on tikanga Māori and contribute to ideas that reflect Māori wisdom, arts, and worldview. We are currently developing an internship programme, so that as well as taking guidance from our Māori partners, we will be sharing our own skills and knowledge with rangatahi in return.

NZ Team Waihanga design

Working in consultation with Derek Lardelli, NZ Team Mātua, we developed their three core brand waihanga elements into a visual language and graphic system, along with a guideline framework for other brand partners to follow.

The graphic system was designed with built-in flexibility to cover the wide range of communication requirements of the NZ Team while maintaining an authentic connection to the story telling in each campaign.

New Zealand Rugby

New Zealand Rugby has been on a journey for a number of years to weave tikanga Māori through their entire kaupapa. We were tasked with integrating this work into their events environments, beginning with the ASB Rugby Awards.

Working together with New Zealand Rugby Kaumātua Luke Crawford, and renowned Māori artist Dave Burke, we developed a unique rugby ball icon for the ASB Rugby Awards. Each of the four panels  embodied the story of the four pou of NZ Rugby’s strategic vision.
